About the piece

Katsenarie (Cruquiusweg, Amsterdam)

The Oehoeboeroe Daycare Center on Cruquiusweg is reminiscent of an orientalfairytale castle at the Efteling. Oriental-looking spires made of flexiblecopper tubes protrude from a large blue plastic cloud attached to the facade ofthe building. The building originally served as a port customsoffice but was converted into a daycare center by architect Sjoerd Soeters. Theentrance was moved to the back of the building, which led to Berend Strik beingchosen to design the new facade. He created an enormous facade sculpture thatwas attached to the building in 1994.
