Atlanta Twins

About the piece
Atlanta Twins - collaboration between Berend Strik and One Architecture
Identical twins, Carla and Claudia Huntey (37) and their mother Sylvia Huntey (74) are the source of inspiration for this project.
Berend Strik and One Architecture want to plan, design and built (a) house(-s) for the twins, as a gift.
Carla and Claudia were diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of fourteen, even though they showed symptoms from the age of five.
The twin sisters and their mother have to change residence every six months because their neighbors would complain about the noises they made. Moreover the houses are not resistant to their compulsive behavior.
Because of the lack of quality in rental housing in America, the necessity to develop, design and build housing for these women became clear. Being identical twins makes their situation even more complicated. Part of their Tourette is that if they see each other they see their own illness. The syndrome auto-intensifies.
The project not only plays out the highly singular needs of Carla and Claudia Huntey vis-a-vis the abstract world of the medical establishment, housing authorities and codes in society, it also deals with cognitive systems and tactile formations.
