Mothers and Snow

Mothers and Snow (2025) is part of Berend Strik'sexhibition Threads that Echo at Hopstreet Gallery, Brussels (4September – 25 October 2025), subsequently shown at Hotel Arena, Amsterdam (31October – 15 December 2025).

The exhibition explores themes of origin, memory, and shared humanexperience through Strik's signature fusion of photography and textiles. AsHopstreet Gallery describes: "The series about mothers, presented inanother room, also relates to the idea of origin. By concealing some elementsand accentuating others, these works exude a subtle, intimate atmosphere thatis universally recognisable. Strik aims to evoke a sense of shared memories, afeeling like 'oh yes, my mother…' and 'we all have a mother.'"

The Belgian review La Libre described the exhibition: "In hisnew exhibition Threads with an Echo, Berend Strik explores the layers withinimages. By combining photography with textiles, he disrupts the fixed meaningof a photograph and creates space for new interpretations. The interplay ofmemory and material evokes an intimate, almost tangible experience: the imageis not only seen but also felt."
